The Key To Achieving All Your Resolutions…Warning: Your Not Going To Like It

Feelings

They are the reason we do everything in our life.

They are also the reason we don’t do things in our life.

The only reason you don’t achieve all those New Year Resolutions that you set is because of the “negative” feelings that come up when you think about doing them.

Examples:

You don’t want to feel tired so you don’t get up ealier.

You don’t want to feel deprived so you don’t reach your weight loss goals.

You don’t want to feel stressed so you don’t do those things you decided you were going fit into your daily life  (whether thats a weekly date with your spouse, taking time for yourself, daily scripture study, ministering, attending the temple, exercising, laughing, relaxing).

I have been taking a good hard look lately into my feelings.

I have made list of negative emotions. Emotions that I don’t necessarily like to feel but that I realize I need to feel in order to:

  • achieve goals
  • grow to a better version of the me I already know, and
  • I even need to feel these “negative” emotions in order to strengthen my marriage and other relationships I view as important and worthwhile.

Here is my list (shortened for the sake of time)

disappointment

uncomfortable

fear

disagreement

scared

sad

deprived

annoyed

anger

remorse

regret

dissatisfied

exhausted

nervous

full

lonely

hunger

wanting

rejected

tired

awkward

hurt

failure

humiliated

This is my list. Your list of “negative” emotions that you need to allow in order to evolve may look very different.

Why is it important to understand this? Why is it important to be willing to recognize and experience these emotions?

If you know you must feel them to grow, then they become easier to deal with. When we recognize that we are feeling them, we just acknowledge that we are feeling them and remember that we can totally handle feeling “humiliated” or whatever emotion is coming up for us.

Feel all the feels! I dare you!
