I Believe In Christ

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

I believe in Christ.

In believe in God the Eternal Father and Mother.

I believe in the Holy Ghost.

I believe that through the gift of the Holy Ghost we can know the truth of all things.

As a coach, I teach that we can believe anything we want to believe.

That is 100% truth.

We were born on this earth with our AGENCY.  Agency is our ability to choose 100% for ourselves what we will believe and how we will act.  In the Book of Mormon, Nephi teaches us the “Men are free according to the flesh…free to choose liberty and eternal life…or to choose captivity and death.” (2 Nephi 2:27)

I believe that much of that captivity is in our own minds.  We are held captive by our thoughts.

In these days, much of our work to do in combating darkness, is the work we will do within our own heads.  Satan knows are weaknesses.  He is real.  He can plant a seed of a thought in our mind.  Our mind does not know what to believe unless we tell it to believe it.  That is truth.

Once we get a thought in our head, even if we don’t believe it at first, we start to look for evidence that it is true.  That may be believing that we are worthless, or that our bishop has offended us so that church must not be true.  It could be a whole slew of things.  That thought that started as a seed, then becomes real to you.  You think it is fact.  It is not.

I will say it again.  You get to choose, again and again, what you are going to believe.  I choose truth.  I choose goodness.  I choose Jesus Christ.  I choose to align my life with what he taught and continues to teach through living prophets.  Today that prophet is Russel M. Nelson.

I believe there are eternal truths everywhere.  There are people teaching goodness and truth readily available to all of us.  You can hear those truths from voices all over the world.  From Byron Katie, Brooke Castillo, Oprah, Eckhart Tolle, just to name a few.    They are your next door neighbors, the presbyterian church down the street.  The checker at the grocery store.  I teach those truths to my clients.  It may be spoken in different terms from what I have been taught in church, but it is truth eternal. It reminds us all of our original home in heaven.  It is familiar and nostalgic.  That is why it feels so good.

But, there is only one place where I choose to make commitments with Christ.  That is in ordinances and covenants that are available to me through the priesthood, that has been restored, through the Prophet, Joseph Smith.  “In the ordinances thereof, the power of godliness and manifest.” (Doctrine and Covenants 84:20)

We are at war.  We are at war with Satan.  He wants us to believe what our minds tell us. But we have been told to study it out in our HEARTS and in our MINDS (Doctrine and Covenants 8:2).  That is where the checks and balances are.  “Open your ears that ye may hear, and your hearts that ye may understand, and in your minds that the mysteries of God may be unfolded to your view.” (Mosiah 2:9)

Choose very carefully those things that you let your mind believe.  Be not deceived.  It is getting harder and harder to distinguish truth, both in the world and in your own mind.
